Apparently my little experiment has been quite popular. This is the first update on progress since deploying the plastic rings on the morning of Sunday the 13th. The control is prominently displayed in my living room, since I’ve not found a place to keep it. Above, is a photo of our very lovely control array as of 8pm this evening.
And here is our experimental unit. I’ve placed it in the back yard, hopefully a safe distance from my megalomaniacal cucumber plant. I stuck the bag handle under a potted plant that is a pet project of Spouse to keep the wind from sending it down the highway.

It does appear slightly the worse for wear to me, but will report again whenever something looks like it has changed, or it appears significant that not much has changed.
One flaw with the experiment (in addition to my unreliable attention span) is that the outdoor set got severely rained on last night. So I guess we’re actually testing the effects of outdoor life on the rings, rather than simply sunlight.

It does appear to be warping slightly. How many days was it left out or to how many hours of sunlight was it exposed, at the point of the photo?
(Reason I ask is because the post is dated 07/14 so I would assume one day, unless the shots were taken in the evening, etc.)
Hi Matt, I set out the rings on the morning of the 13th, and took these photos on the evening of the 14th. In the future, I plan to have both sets in the same photo so that distance, focus and lighting conditions are the same. Too persnickety?
No, I think that’s a great idea
This really brings out my inner nerd.
