Great advice: Sometimes you just have to do something.

As much as we hate to admit it, our parents sometimes know stuff. Even when we’re grown up ourselves and therefore have all the answers.

One night, my father took me out to dinner. This was a rare event, in that my father never did anything alone with my siblings and I. The purpose of the dinner, was for him to give me one of the most important pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten in my life. He had long held his tongue about my first marriage, which, at the time, was totally dissolving. I had no idea what to do, and so he told me “The worst decision you can make, is to decide not to make a decision. Even a bad decision can be dealt with… but if you choose to do nothing, then nothing is ever going to change.” I’m not sure if he borrowed those words from someone else, but they were perfect then, and have been perfect several times since.
